I came across an interesting study not too long ago about how male website visitors favored websites with lots of 3D graphics... websites that used lots of shadowing and imagery that made the site appear to have visual depth. Whereas women favored websites that were visually simpler, 2D and used more white space and earthier color palettes. Different audiences require different approaches to graphic design.
